First off, 5 stars. This is my 5th set of carrolls scales. This was sadly the first set I’ve encountered an issue with but nothing a drill couldn’t take care of. 5stars even with an issue? THEYRE THAT GOOD. To put this into perspective, I review knives on YouTube. I have more knives than I care to admit. When I first heard that these scales were good but sold for 50-65 bucks I thought, “what a joke, who buys scales that are more expensive than budget knives?” Now I genuinely wish every fixed blade I owned had a pair. It feels like my hands were created to one day hold a knife kitted out with Carroll scales. Buying these scales is a double edged sword (no pun intended). You’ll love them but you’ll never be able to appreciate a stock fixed blade again. Now onto the issue. When installing, I could not, for the life of me, get the barrels to go into the scales. I even thought I may have switched the barrels (top and bottom) but no. They really were just that tight. I took a mallet to the barrel to try getting it to go in. No luck. I then stepped it up to the drill and had to open up the scale holes ever so slightly. I managed to do this without marring up the scales too badly. Even with all of that, I HIGHLY recommend you try them. Absolutely worth the extra effort to get them to fit.
