These were my first attempt at removing material from the underside. I cut a little too deep in the front. I patched it with epoxy. I really don’t think you have any issues with it. 

WTG hand sands every knife individually, creating the potential for small variations from knife to knife. Without having your knife in my hand, there's no way to ensure perfection. Each scale will provide you with enough material to make the finishing touches necessary without damaging the scales.
